Baker junior Rasean Jones continues to rewrite the BHS track record book.

Jones, who broke the school records in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles last year, broke a 65-year-old record in the long jump earlier this month.

Then, during the Carnival of Speed meet Friday, April 25, at Milton-Freewater, Jones set a new record in the 400-meter dash. His time of 50.14 seconds nipped the record of 50.20 set by Mike Woydziak in 1998.

Jones also was a member of the 4×400 relay team that set a school record in 2024.

Jones swept the sprints at the Carnival of Speed, winning the 100 and 200 to help Baker finish second in the boys team standings with 102.7 points, just behind Pendleton at 104.4

Baker finished eighth in the girls meet.

Powder Valley and Pine Eagle also competed.

Other individual champions included Baker’s Sammy Gressley in the 100, Pine Eagle’s Lindsey Brown in the 3,000, Pine Eagle’s Ella Randall in the shot put, an event in which she is a two-time state champion, and Pine Eagle’s Nyah Johnson in the high jump.

The Spartans placed ninth in the girls team standings.

On the boys side, Baker’s Daniel Brown, who has committed to compete for Southwest Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, placed second in the 800 and 1,500. Jack Joseph was second in the high jump, and Kane Hellberg was second in the triple jump.
