The Powder Valley football team had only one long gain but that was enough to stay unbeaten with an 8-6 win over Class 3A Riverside at Boardman on Thursday night, Sept. 12.

The Badgers improved to 3-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Riverside scored first on a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

After taking over on downs on the Pirates’ next possession, the Badgers tied the score on Tucker Martin’s 65-yard touchdown run. Martin broke through a scrum in the middle of the field and sprinted ahead of the defense. The 2-point conversion was good and the Badgers led 8-6.

Martin had a key first down run late after Riverside had called two timeouts to try to save time on the clock for a potential game-winning drive, and the Badgers ran out the clock.
