BAKER GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bulldogs roll past Fruitland, improve to 3-3

The Baker girls basketball team traveled to Fruitland, Idaho, Tuesday night, Dec. 17, and led most of the way en route to a 47-38 win over the Grizzlies to end a three-game losing streak.

Emy Myer made three 3-pointers and led all scorers with a season-high 15 points.
Baker improved to 3-3.
Baker won the JV game, 59-28.

First quarter
There were three lead changes early, then Myer swished the first of her 3-pointers, and Gracie Spike hit a shot from just inside the 3-point line to give Baker a 14-8 lead after the first quarter.
Ashlyn Dalton also had a 3-pointer.
Second quarter
Myer had consecutive baskets, including her second 3-pointer, to give Baker a 25-18 lead after the Grizzlies had cut a nine-point Baker lead to four.
Mary Schwartz stole a pass and went the length of the court for a layin in the final 10 seconds to boost Baker’s lead to 27-19 at halftime.
Myer led Baker with 10 points in the half. Kathryn Gentry had two baskets in the second quarter.
Third quarter
Baker dominated the quarter to extend the lead to as much as 14, at 35-21, before Fruitland scored the final basket to make it 35-23 at the break.
Molly Rasmussen scored inside and her sister, Gwen, had a basket followed by two free throws as Baker opened the quarter with a 6-0 run to go up 33-19.
Baker’s defense kept the Grizzlies scoreless for more than half the quarter.
Fourth quarter
Lily Logsdon’s 3-pointer to open the final period gave Baker its biggest lead at 38-23.
Fruitland got as close as 43-34 on Aleksi Drollinger’s layin, but Myer immediately answered with her third 3-pointer with 1:05 left.
Baker had five 3-pointers, Fruitland none. The Grizzlies also struggled at the free throw line, making just six of 16. Baker was four for six.
The Bulldogs head for the coast to compete in the three-day Seaside Holiday Classic starting Thursday, Dec. 19, against The Dalles at 6:30 p.m.
Baker’s opponents and game times for Friday and Saturday games are to be determined.
