LA GRANDE — Led by individual champion Marli Lind and runners-up Madison Meyer and Lilly Collins, the Baker/Powder Valley girls wrestling team finished fourth at the Safeway Girls Buckle Classic tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14, in La Grande.

La Grande won the team title with 327 points. Crook County was second with 187.5, Rocky Mountain, Idaho, was third with 147 and Baker/Powder Valley was fourth with 133.5.

Lind, from Powder Valley, won all four of her matches at 155 pounds, pinning all four opponents. She placed third in the state tournament last February.

In the championship match at La Grande, Lind pinned Alivia Abouchani of Scappoose with just 18 seconds left in the third round.

“The Bulldogs did magnificently well for the second tournament of the year,” coach Chris Price said. “I have been blessed with a great group of wrestlers who are always looking to become better and give everything they have every time they step out on the mat. We took eight wrestlers to this tournament and out of those wrestlers seven of them placed in the top five of their weight class.”

Price said Lind’s title “will be the first of many” this season.

“Lilly Collins and Madison Meyer were second in their weights and are determined to improve and push to the next level as the season goes on,” Price said.

The Bulldogs will have an intersquad dual event Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. at BHS.

Baker/Powder Valley then will compete in the Elgin Memorial Classic tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20 and 21.
