Jesse Brown wins 5th round in steer wrestling at National Finals Rodeo, pockets $33,000

Steer wrestler Jesse Brown, a Baker City native, had the fastest time in the fifth round at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas on Monday, Dec. 9.

Brown, competing on rodeo’s biggest stage for the fifth straight year, brought down his steer in 3.6 seconds to win $33,687.

In the sixth go-round on Tuesday, Dec. 10, Brown’s time of 4.5 seconds was ninth, and out of the money. 

Brown is in eighth place in total time after six of the 10 rounds. The event continues through Dec. 14. Brown tied for fifth in the third round to win $7,063.

He entered the National Finals Rodeo in sixth place in money earnings for the season.

Brown was third in the world standings in 2023, and fifth in 2022.
