The Bulldogs had a great start, racing to a 14-4 lead over the Class 5A Bend Lava Bears in a semifinal game at the Crook County Tip Off tournament in Prineville and breezing to a 73-52 win to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Baker will play for the tournament championship on Saturday.
Bend’s Caleb Unruh kept the Lava Bears close with four 3-pointers in the first quarter, which ended with Baker leading 23-16.
The Bulldogs started the second quarter with a 10-2 run, sparked by consecutive 3-pointers by Eli Long, both from the same spot in the right corner.
Baker coach Jebron Jones then deployed the fullcourt press, and it yielded three consecutive steals leading to a layin by Isaiah Jones, a 3-pointer by freshman Jake Holden and a breakaway dunk by Rasean Jones that boosted Baker’s lead to 40-20 and prompted a Bend timeout.
Rasean Jones’ three-pointer — Baker’s fifth of the quarter — made it Baker 46-22.
The Bulldogs led 48-27 at halftime.
Bend never made a serious run at the Bulldogs in the third quarter, and Baker extended its lead to 67-41 after three quarters.
