POWDER VALLEY VOLLEYBALL: Badgers sweep Jordan Valley in Class 1A playoff match, will host Prairie City/Burnt River Nov. 2

The Powder Valley Badgers advanced to the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs with a dominating sweep of Jordan Valley on Wednesday evening, Oct. 30, at North Powder.

The Badgers will play host to Prairie City/Burnt River in a second-round playoff match on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1:30 p.m. with a berth in the eight-team state tournament at stake. The state tournament is Nov. 8-9 at Ridgeview High School in Redmond.

Prairie City/Burnt River swept Southwest Christian in a first-round match Wednesday evening.

Powder Valley’s four fellow Old Oregon League schools all won their first-round playoff matches — Union, Imbler, Cove and Elgin.

First set

Jordan Valley took a 15-14 lead but the Badgers rallied with a 6-1 run to lead 20-16. After the Mustangs closed to within 20-18, Powder scored four straight points, including an ace serve by Kellee Dixon, to get to set point at 24-18. The Badgers closed the set 25-18 on Dixon’s kill.

Second set

The Badgers started fast, taking a 7-1 lead. Powder Valley went on to win 25-10.

Third set

Powder Valley continued its dominant play in the third set, going ahead 9-3 and prompting a Jordan Valley timeout. The Badgers completed the sweep, 25-10, on a kill by Sky Nesser.
