BAKER HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Busy week for the Bulldogs

Baker’s boys and girls soccer teams were in action Tuesday, Oct. 15, the start of a busy sports week for the Bulldogs.
The girls soccer team, 3-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the Greater Oregon League, played Pendleton/Weston-McEwen at the Baker Sports Complex.
The boys, 4-5 overall and 2-1 in league play, were on the road to Pendleton.
Baker then returns to the Sports Complex on Friday for a nonleague match against Umatilla at 4 p.m.
Girls soccer
Baker trailed Pendleton 3-1 at halftime and lost 6-2.
Jill Poe and Molly Rasmussen scored Baker’s goals.
Boys soccer
Baker won 2-1 to improve to 3-1 in league play and remain in second place behind Ontario (4-0).
Aldo Duran and Kane Hellberg scored for Baker. Danny Duran-Puente and Simon Defrutos had assists.
Volleyball
Baker, 7-11 overall and 2-2 in league, was scheduled to travel to Vale for a nonleague match against the Vikings, but that match was canceled due to scheduling conflicts and available of referees.
Simon Lamson, Baker athletic director, said the match couldn’t be moved to Baker because the gym is decorated for Wednesday’s Pep Night.
The match was rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Baker gym.
The Bulldogs will play at home on Thursday, Oct. 17, in a key GOL match against La Grande at 6:30 p.m. It’s also Pink Night at BHS, in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Baker then travels to North Powder on Saturday, Oct. 19, for an 11:30 a.m. match against the Badgers, who are 19-5 overall and 8-0 in the Old Oregon League. Powder is ranked third in Class 1A.
Prior to the Baker match, Powder Valley will travel to Halfway to pay Pine Eagle on the Spartans’ senior night on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Badgers then travel to Union on Friday for a 5 p.m. match.
On Thursday, Huntington will play Prairie City/Burnt River at 5 p.m. at Prairie City. On Friday, Huntington plays host to Treasure Valley Classical Academy at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Pine Eagle plays host to Jordan Valley at 11 a.m.
Football
Baker plays host to Ontario for homecoming on Friday at 7 p.m. at Baker Bulldog Memorial Stadium.
Also on Friday, Powder Valley travels to Union for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
