LOCAL SPORTS: Key contests this week for Baker volleyball, football; other schools in action

The Baker volleyball team travels to Pendleton on Thursday, Oct. 10, for a key Greater Oregon League match against the Buckaroos that could decide the league champion and will have implications for the Bulldogs’ playoff hopes.

Pendleton is atop the league with a 3-0 record. The Buckaroos are 10-3 overall and ranked fourth in Class 4A.

Baker is 2-1 in league play and 7-10 overall. Pendleton won the first match in four sets on Sept. 19 in the Baker gym.

The Bulldogs will also be on the road Thursday, heading to La Grande for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Community Stadium.

Baker is 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the GOL. La Grande is 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league.

Baker girls soccer

The Bulldogs lost 5-0 at Ontario on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Baker is 3-5-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the Greater Oregon League.

Baker’s next match is Oct. 15 against Pendleton/Weston-McEwen at 5:30 p.m. at the Baker Sports Complex.

Powder Valley volleyball

The Badgers won their seventh straight match on Tuesday, Oct. 8, sweeping Wallowa 25-15, 25-10, 25-7 at North Powder.

The Badgers, ranked fourth in Class 1A, are 19-4 overall and 8-0 in the Old Oregon League.

Powder played host to Imbler on Friday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. in a non league match. The Panthers ended Powder’s winning streak with a three-set sweep, 25-20, 25-20, 25-19.

The Badgers, 4-2 and 1-2 in the Old Oregon League, play host to Imbler Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.

Pine Eagle football

The Spartans, 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Old Oregon League, travel to Wallowa Friday, Oct. 11, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Pine Eagle volleyball

The Spartans, 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the Old Oregon League, travel to Wallowa on Friday, Oct. 11, for a 5 p.m. match, then return to Halfway to take on Elgin on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m.

Huntington football

The Locomotives travel to Jordan Valley Friday, Oct. 11, for a 1 p.m. PDT kickoff. Huntington is 0-5 overall, 0-4 in the High Desert League.

Huntington volleyball

The Locomotives travel to Dayville on Wednesday, Oct. 9, for a 4 p.m. match against Dayville/Monument/Long Creek. Huntington, 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the High Desert League, travel to Jordan Valley on Friday, Oct. 11, for a 4 p.m. PDT match.
