HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Busy week ahead, starting Tuesday, for local athletes

Baker volleyball, and boys and girls soccer teams, will be in action Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The girls soccer team opens its league season by traveling to Pendleton for a 4 p.m. match against Pendleton/Weston-McEwen.

The Baker boys also begin league play with a home match against Pendleton/Weston-McEwen at 5:30 p.m. at the Baker Sports Complex.

In volleyball, Baker will play host to Nyssa in a nonleague match at the BHS gym. The varsity match, which follows JV2 and JV matches, is slated to start around 6:30 p.m.

Spectators are encouraged to wear green in honor of Abel Bain, the 7-year-old Baker City boy who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Abel’s sister, Lexi Rupel, is a senior on the Baker team.

In Class 1A volleyball, Huntington will play host to Adrian at 5 p.m.

Baker returns to its Greater Oregon League schedule on Thursday, traveling to La Grande for a 6:30 p.m. match.
