LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Powder Valley volleyball improves to 8-2; unbeaten football team plays Riverside Thursday night

The Powder Valley volleyball team opened its Old Oregon League season with a 3-0 sweep of Joseph on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at North Powder.

The Badgers, ranked seventh in Class 1A, improved to 8-2 overall with their sixth straight win. The set scores were 25-18, 25-23, 25-18.

Powder Valley has a busy weekend ahead with tournaments in their home gym.

On Friday, Sept. 13, the Badgers will play Damascus Christian at 10:30 a.m., and Crosshill Christian at 2:15 p.m. On Saturday the Badgers play South Wasco County at 2:15 p.m., and Grant Union at 4:45 p.m.

On the football field, the 2-0 Badgers travel to Boardman Thursday, Sept. 12, to play Riverside at 7:30 p.m.

In other local sports action, the Pine Eagle volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 loss at Union on Tuesday, 25-20, 25-3, 25-9.

The Spartans play host to Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler Thursday at 5 p.m.
