Thunderstorm winds could push fire toward Huntington; Level 3 evacuation notice — leave now — issued for the town

A Level 3 evacuation notice — leave now — has been issued for Huntington as gusty winds from nearby thunderstorms have the potential to push the Durkee Fire east toward Interstate 84 and the town.

For Huntington residents who need transportation, a bus will be available at Lions Park.

Level 3 evacuation has also been issued to Rye Valley and the surrounding area.

This evening at approximately 7:04 p.m. thunderstorms moved through the area which caused the fire column to collapse, sending wind gusts in excess of 50 mph in all directions, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire has not crossed I-84 at this time, but has the potential to. BCSO Deputies, Search and Rescue members and fire personnel are en route to assist citizens.
