- Visitors gather at the Leo Adler House Museum on Adler's birthday, June 21, 2022.
The legacy of Leo Adler, Baker City’s most generous philanthropist, will be celebrated on his birthday, Wednesday, June 21.
A celebration will start at 4 p.m. at the Adler House Museum, 2305 Main St. The house was Adler’s longtime residence until his death, at age 98, on Nov. 2, 1993.
The event includes cake, free tours of the Adler House Museum, activities by CASA and Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, and snow cones courtesy of the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
June 21 was designated at Leo Adler Day by a city proclamation in 1998. The event is intended to “encourage all residents to pause and reflect upon the ideal of service above self, demonstrated by Mr. Adler in his lifetime.”
Adler, who was born on June 21, 1895, left his $20 million fortune, earned through his magazine distribution business based in Baker City, to the community. The Adler Foundation has awarded more than $37 million, including more than 9,200 college scholarships and grants to more than 1,400 community projects.
