Donald L. Kilpatrick

La Grande 1927-2019

Donald Lee Kilpatrick, 92, of La Grande, died Aug. 22 at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held Sept. 14 at the Imbler Christian Church. The time of the service has been changed to 11 a.m.

Known as Don, he was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Two Buttes, Colorado, to William “Bill” and Myra (Davis) Kilpatrick. He resided in Visalia, California; Reno, Nevada; Modesto, California; and Vale and La Grande. Don attended Visalia High School and served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II, 1944-1945. He married Edna Gardner in November 1945.

Don was employed as a logger, in food vending, as farmer, in insurance sales and as an insurance adjuster. He enjoyed hunting, sailing, flying planes and woodworking. Don built everything imaginable, including houses, boats and planes. He even did float trips in his mid-80s. He also enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren play sports.

Don was recognized as the Long-time Elder serving Ontario Church of Christ. He was a member of the Imbler Christian Church. Don was a faithful husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving relatives include his children and their spouses; Russell and Marlene Kilpatrick of La Grande, Donelle and LaVern Widmer of Nyssa, Dale and Marilyn Kilpatrick of La Grande, and Kevin and Kit Kilpatrick of Prineville; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and five nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; parents, Bill and Myra; brother, Bernard Kilpatrick; and sister, Pat Lenard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Genesis Preschool, Imbler Christian Church, 440 Ruckman Ave., Imbler 97841.

Marvin L. Cunningham

La Grande

Marvin L. Cunningham, 76, of La Grande, died Aug. 28 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Grandview Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at 3 p.m. at the family home, 2004½ E. N Ave. The family prefers casual dress. An obituary is forthcoming. George J. Gilchrist

La Grande 1947-2019

George James Gilchrist, 72, of La Grande, died Aug. 26 at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at the La Grande First Christian Church.

George was born May 6, 1947, in Bend, to Ralph and Edith (Tackman) Gilchrist. He resided in Powell Butte and La Grande. George attended Bend Community College, what is now Eastern Oregon University and San Francisco College of Mortuary Science, and he served in the U.S. Army. He married Lucy Ann Hartman.

George was the co-owner of Valley Insurance. He enjoyed model airplanes, knitting, railroad motor cars, balloon twisting and cooking for groups. A recreational pilot, George received recognition from Gov. Tom McCall for being the youngest pilot in Oregon to solo a private plane.

George served as the student body president of Bend Community College in 1967. He was a board member of Youth for Christ, a bush pilots member and a member of the Imbler Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy; children and their spouses, Paul Gilchrist of La Grande, Betty Gilchrist of Spokane, Washington, Josh and Kristin Rader of Missoula, Montana, and Randi and Billy Padot of Newberg; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Edith Gilchrist.
