Baker’s Brianna Stadler will have a chance to cap her high school swimming career with her fifth and sixth individual state championships.

Stadler, a senior, qualified for the state meet in two events — the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke.

Stadler won the backstroke at the district meet Saturday, Feb. 12, at Madras, and she finished second in the butterfly.

The state meet is set for Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

One other Baker swimmer, Silas Carter, could potentially qualify for state depending on results from other districts, Baker coach Randy Stadler said.

Carter placed fifth in the boys 100-yard freestyle at the district meet.

“That’s pretty impressive, with Silas being a rookie with just three months of training,” Randy Stadler said.

Overall, Stadler said he was pleased with Baker’s performance at the district meet.

“They just swam great,” he said. “It’s a very impressive group.”

In the girls 100 backstroke, Stadler finished in 1:00.74, more than 5 seconds ahead of runner up Alyssa Sanchez of Catlin Gabel.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Stadler was in the lead until the final 25 yards, when Adrienne Tam of Catlin Gabel just beat her to the wall.

Randy Stadler said Brianna Stadler (who is his daughter) and Tam are arch rivals but also friends.

“They have a lot of respect for each other,” Randy Stadler said.
