CLASS 1A STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS: Day 3 at Baker High School; Crane boys advance to championship game

- Echo's Mayela De La Fuente faces the defense of Powder Valley's Jodi Bingham in a quarterfinal game in the 1A state basketball tournament on Feb. 29, 2024, at Baker High School. Powder Valley won, 45-38.
Day 3 at the Class 1A state basketball tournaments at Baker High School include the four championship semifinals games.

Girls
Consolation semifinals
Imbler vs. Country Christian
Country Christian wins 46-40, eliminating Imbler and advancing to the fourth-place game on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. against the winner of the Echo-North Clackamas Christian game.
Country Christian’s Lilly Garfield led all scorers with 17 points.
Rachael Stirewait led Imbler with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Echo vs. North Clackamas Christian
Echo scored the first six points and led throughout in a 51-35 win to advance to the fourth-place game against Country Christian. Nevaeh Thew led Echo with 14 points.
Championship semifinals
St. Paul vs. Crane
After a close first quarter, the unbeaten Mustangs dominated the second quarter, 29-3, and go on to win 66-33.
Crane senior Kortney Doman has set a new single-game record for steals in a state tournament game at any level, with 15. The previous record was 12 by Kris Strouhal of Glencoe in 1993.
Crane freshman Kaitlyn Siegner led all scorers with 25 points. Doman added 15.
Addi Arnzen led St. Paul with 9 points.
Crane, which won the state title in 2020 and 2022 and finished second in 2023, will play either Powder Valley or North Douglas for the championship on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

Boys
Championship semifinals
Trinity Lutheran vs. Crane
Crane, seeking an unprecedented third straight boys Class 1A state title, pulls away in the second half to win 56-41. Carter Nichols had 26 points to lead the Mustangs, and Cody Siegner added 19 despite missing much of the first half after picking up two early fouls.
Andrew Imhoff, who scored 40 points in Trinity Lutheran’s 78-33 quarterfinal win over Crosshill Christian on Wednesday, led the Saints with 15 points. Jack Foley added 14.
Crane had a major advantage from long range, making 8 of 21 3-pointers compared with Trinity Lutheran’s 2 of 17. Siegner made all three of his 3-point attempts.
Crane will play Nixyaawii for the state title Saturday at 5:45 p.m. Trinity Lutheran will play North Douglas for third place Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
North Douglas vs. Nixyaawii
Nixyaawii in control, leading 33-18 at halftime. Weptas Brockie has 12 points on a quartet of 3-pointers to lead the Golden Eagles, who were 6 of 12 overall from long range in the half, compared to North Douglas’ 1 for 9.
Nixyaawii wins 74-55, setting up the title game against Crane. The two teams played twice during the regular season. Crane won both games, 70-60 on Dec. 9 at Pilot Rock, and 64-51 on Feb. 8 at Eastern Oregon University.
Against North Douglas, Baron Moses had 18 points to lead four Nixyaawii players in double figures. Symon Picard had 17 points, Brockie 12 and Rylen Bronson 11.
North Douglas’ Hunter Vaughn led all scorers with 29 points.
