‘Minimal activity’ on Boulder Creek Fire

- There has been "minimal activity" the past two days on the Boulder Creek Fire, a lighting-sparked blaze burning in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
The evacuation notices issued earlier this week for the Boulder Creek Fire in the Eagle Cap Wilderness northeast of Baker City have been canceled, as the lightning-sparked blaze has shown “minimal activity.”
The fire is “holding well at 104 acres,” Walter Lowell, public affairs officer for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, said early Thursday afternoon, Aug. 22.
“We anticipate demobilizing some firefighters today and plan to bring most off the fire by Friday,” Lowell said. “We are tracking storms that are anticipated to arrive Friday and Saturday in the area that will bring moisture and a significant drop in temperatures. The forest will keep aviation resources on to monitor the fire as needed.
A nearby fire, the Bench Fire near Copper Creek, was contained at half an acre.
That fire was also started by lightning.
