At this year’s Baker County Fair livestock auction, the 81st annual event, 171 market animals brought in a preliminary grand total of $288,605.55.
While this is the most animals sold at auction in recent years, this year’s preliminary total is just shy of 2015’s record of $299,757.01. However, the OSU Extension office calls this year’s number a “preliminary” total for a reason, as donations are still rolling in.
Market Steer
Zoey Justus’s 1,310-pound steer won grand champion honors and sold for $4,912.50.
There were 48 steers sold.
Market Lamb
Maggie Mackenzie took home grand champion among 28 other lambs. Her 136-pound lamb sold for $2,210 to Haines Steakhouse.
Augustena Cook won the reserve grand champion title with her 117-pound lamb earning $1,199.25.
Market Swine
Alicia Maldonado’s pig won grand champion honors and sold for a price of $1,572, weighing in at 262 pounds.
The second title went to Kaci Anderson for her 283-pound pig, which earned $1,273.50.
Seventy-five pigs were sold.
Market Poultry
Logan Neff’s 30-pound turkey earned him $1,350 and the grand champion title.
Briana Neff earned $448 for her 11.2-pound goose.
Two other animals sold in the poultry division.
Market Rabbit
Logan LaHaug received grand champion honors and $350 for his 14-pound rabbit.
David Kerns’s 13-pound rabbit went for $422.50 and earned the second title.
Four pens of rabbits sold.
Market Goat
An 86-pound goat raised by Jacquelyn Sanders earned the grand champion title and $430.
Julianne Kersgaard raised the reserve champion 97-pound goat that brought in $460.75.
In total, 11 goats sold.
