- BAKER GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM WIN ITS FIRST-EVER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Baker girls win their first ever state basketball title, 51-48 over Marist, Saturday night at Forest Grove High School, finishing the season with a 25-1 record.
Jayme Ramos led Baker with 14 points. Rose Gwillim and Sydney Younger each had 11. Sydney Keller added 7, including two crucial late free throws, and Isabella Nemec had 6 points.
It was a thrilling game with multiple lead changes in the second half. After Marist took a 41-39 lead with 5:21 left, Baker scored 6 straight points — 2 free throws by Ramos, a layup by Gwillim, and a layup by Ramos.
Baker made 16 of 22 free throws, compared with Marist’s 4 of 8.
