‘Bill’ Weber Jr.
William Francis andquot;Billandquot; Weber Jr., 62, of Baker City, died Aug. 11, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Health Services after a 10-year battle with cancer.
His funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gray’s West andamp; Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Pastor Nathaniel Neff of Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church will officiate. There will be a reception afterward at the Eagles Lodge, 2935 H St. Visitations will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gray’s West andamp; Co. Disposition was by cremation at Eastern Oregon Pioneer Crematory.
Bill was born on Sept. 26, 1944, at Baker City to William F. Weber Sr. and Norma R. Olp Weber. He attended Baker City schools and was a 1962 Baker High School graduate.
He held a 22-year career with the Union Pacific Railroad, living in many cities during this time. He raised his three children with the help of his family.
Later in his life he met his life partner, Dorothy F. Smith. Bringing with her three more children to the family, Dorothy and Bill spent many years traveling, going to motorcycle rallies and enjoying their large family.
Being avid motorcycle and travel enthusiasts, they traveled through every state in the United States, including Alaska. They also cycled Canada, Mexico, and abroad to Germany, Italy, Austria and the Bahamas.
Bill loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed get-togethers, fishing, boating, camping and hunting, and he would often share his travel stories with everyone.
Survivors include his life partner, Dorothy F. Smith; his mother, Norma R. Weber; his son, Lenny Weber of Cove, daughters, Joanne Smith and her husband, Troy, of Pendleton, and Dr. Kimberly Guthrie and her husband, Jay, of West Linn, son, Joe Gonzales and his wife, Jeannie, of Union, daughter, Amber Laite and her husband, Edward, of Prineville, and daughter, Missy McNeal and her husband, Joseph, of Gresham; sisters, Shirley Boggs and her husband, Virgil, of Gresham, and Janet Leopard and her husband, Duane, of Vancouver, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Weber Sr.; his infant sister, Martha Anne Weber; and his brother, Allen J. Weber.

Derrick Guthrie
Derrick Kyle Guthrie, 24, known by his many friends as andquot;Guff,andquot; died Aug. 12, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
Friends and family will gather at Wade Williams Field from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday to celebrate his life.
Derrick was born on June 10, 1983, at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande to Steven A. and Carol I. Guthrie. He was raised in Baker City and was a 2001 graduate of Baker High School, where he played football and baseball.
While growing up, Derrick played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. He was picked as an all-star several years running.
He was an avid outdoorsman sharing with his many friends and family motorcycling, snowmobiling, snowboarding, jet skiing, baseball, football, skateboarding, and outdoor parties.
Derrick was employed by Columbia Basin Helicopters in many phases of the company. He was learning to fly helicopters and was getting ready to go to school for his pilot’s license.
His family asks that Derrick be remembered andquot;as a person who loved life and everything that went with it, living it to the fullest with a smile.andquot;
Survivors include his parents, Steven A. and Carol I. Guthrie; a brother, Brandon Levi Guthrie; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Marion Guthrie, Cherie Mae Buoy and Wayland Laban Buoy; and a sister, Amy Annette Guthrie.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a memorial fund in his name through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
Roy Slater Sr.
Roy Slater Sr., 63, of Baker City, died Aug. 2, 2007, at his home.
A military inurnment was conducted Aug. 13 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
A celebration of life potluck is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roy Slater Jr.’s home. People planning to attend may call Gray’s West andamp; Co., 523-3677, for directions.
Roy was born on Jan. 8, 1944, at Fairbury, Neb., to Luke Leroy Slater and Hattie Leona Rose.
Roy loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a member of the Baker City Christian Church.
He also loved his family and friends very much. Roy married Marian Wert in Stevenson, Wash., on Aug. 7, 1971. They couple had four sons and two daughters.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and just being outdoors, enjoying all things that God created.
He served in the U.S. Army through the Vietnam era.
Survivors include his wife, Marian; children, Robert Slater, Dan Slater and his wife, Laura, Torena Butler and her husband, Bob, Roy Slater and his wife, Jennifer, Tanya Wilson and her husband, Quentin, and Jess Slater and his wife, Tabitha; grandchildren, Christina, Jessica, Misti, Marlene, Paul, Luke, Shane, Maranda, Jenniffer, Sergio, Jeffry, Freddie, Jon, Alec, Gus, Clay, Chase, Hannah, Killian, McKenzie, Jillian, Delaney, Dominic and Ethan; brothers, Larry Slater, and his wife, Margaret, of Prineville; and Jack Slater and his wife, Glenda, of Portland; sisters, Monna Schmidt of Yamhill, Marie Renfrow of Mounds, Okla., Loretta Kelley of Bend, and Dorothy Slater of Prineville; his mother-in-law, Betty Wert; and many nieces and nephews.
