Women in the Outdoors event June 24

The third-annual Women in the Outdoors event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at the North Slope Ranch near North Powder.

The event is sponsored by the Baker County Longbeards and Four Rivers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. This year’s program will offer classes in Dutch-oven cooking, gold panning, archery, outdoor photography, handguns, shotguns, survival and woodcarving.

The Women in the Outdoors program offers women an opportunity to learn outdoor skills, meet new people and spend time with friends and family, said Rob Keck, the federation’s chief executive officer. Participants receive expert instruction and a chance to try a variety of outdoor activities in events scheduled throughout the United States and Canada.

The National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973. The nonprofit organization supports scientific wildlife management on public, private and corporate lands as well as wild turkey hunting as a traditional North American sport.
