BAKER/POWDER VALLEY/PINE EAGLE SOFTBALL: Bulldogs romp past Ontario in doubleheader sweep

The Baker/Powder Valley/Pine Eagle softball team ran its winning streak to three games with a doubleheader sweep of Ontario on Friday, April 25, at the Sports Complex.
The Bulldogs won the first game 17-6, and Jaxyn Ramos hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth of the second game to make it 15-5 and end the game by 10-run rule.
First game
Baker took control early by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first, all with two outs.
Jaxyn Ramos had a 2-run double and Kate Nilsen and Paityn Barr RBI singles.
Raegan Gulick pitched a complete game to earn the win in the circle. She allowed two earned runs and struck out nine.
Ramos was 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Colbi Bachman had 3 RBIs, and Gulick and Reagan Ritter had two RBIs each.
Second game
Ritter pitched a complete game, going six innings and striking out five with no walks.
Bachman and Ramos each homered, and both had three RBIs.
Kate Nilsen and Ramos had two hits each.
“It was a great day,” Baker centerfielder Maylee Martin said. “We played our hearts out.”
Baker coach Steve Bachman said the Bulldogs are “getting better, but we’re a work in progress.”
“Our goal this week was to get three wins, and we did,” he said. The Bulldogs beat Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa 13-1 on Tuesday, as Ritter threw a no-hitter.
Baker, 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the Greater Oregon League, travels to Vale for a single game on Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m. PDT, then returns home for a doubleheader against league-leading La Grande on Friday, May 2, starting at 2 p.m.
