VALE — Baker freshman Kate Norton won the javelin and shot put throws, and finished third in the discus, to lead the Bulldogs to a second place finish in the girls team standings at the Wayne Invitational track and field meet Friday, April 4, at Vale High School.

Baker senior Sofie Kaaen placed second in the pole vault.

Norton’s throw of 41 feet, 2.75 inches in the shot put was just a quarter-inch short of Baker’s school record.

Powder Valley’s Sky Nesser won the high jump, and the Badgers’ Kyla Richardson was second.

Baker placed fourth in the boys meet.

Senior Daniel Brown finished second in the 3,000 meters. Joseph Warbis was second in the high jump and Gabriel McBride was third. Quin Wellman placed third in the discus, and Kane Hellberg was third in the long jump and triple jump.

A group of Baker athletes are also competing at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, including Rasean Jones, the two-time defending state champion in both hurdles races. Jones set the Oregon Relays record in the 300 hurdles in 2024. He will compete in the hurdles races on Saturday, April 5.

On Friday, Baker’s relay teams competed against some of the best high school teams in the country. The girls 4×400 team of Claire Bachman, Kayla Coley, Meren Jesenko and Sammy Gressley placed 40th with a time of 4:23.31.

The Baker boys team of Henry Kamerdula, Jack Joseph, Henry Gaslin and Rasean Jones also finished 40th, in a time of 3:36.48.

Baker’s girls and boys 4×100 relay teams will also compete on Saturday.
