Two of the five positions on the Baker 5J School Board will be on the ballot for the May primary election.
One of the two incumbents, Jessica Dougherty, has filed for another four-year term, according to the Baker County Clerk’s Office.
The other incumbent, Travis Cook, is not filing as a candidate.
Cook, who owns Copper Belt Winery, said he needs to focus on his business and other projects along with his family.
“The school board is great, I loved doing it and serving,” Cook said Monday, March 17. “It just takes a lot of dedicated time and I don’t feel I have enough to give to it any more to be effective.”
Candidates for either position have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, to file a petition at the county clerk’s office in the courthouse, 1995 Third St.
School board positions will also be filled for the Burnt River (three slots) and Huntington (four slots) school districts.
There are also openings on more than 20 other special districts, including fire, water control and cemetery maintenance districts. A list is available at www.bakercountyor.gov/pages/whats-new.html. Click on “Special District Elections May 20, 2025.”
