BAKER BASKETBALL: Bulldog boys, girls head to Forest Grove looking to make history
Published 2:04 pm Wednesday, March 12, 2025
Baker’s boys and girls basketball teams will travel across the state Wednesday, March 12, with a chance to make history during the Class 4A state tournament March 13-15 at Forest Grove High School.
The Bulldog boys, the defending state champions, are seeking to become the first Baker hoops squad to win back-to-back titles.
And if both teams win the championship, that, too, would be an unprecedented feat for the school.
The Baker girls won the 2023 and 2019 state titles.
The Bulldogs were among the favorites to win the 2020 tournament, but it was canceled, just before Baker’s first game was set to tip off, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Baker has three boys state basketball championships — 2024, 2007 and 1938.
Boys
Baker, 16-8 on the season, will play Crook County (19-6) in a state quarterfinal Thursday, March 13, at 3:15 p.m.
The Bulldogs have won seven straight games, including an 81-30 rout of The Dalles in a playoff game March 8 at BHS.
Thursday’s quarterfinal against Crook County will be the rubber match between the two teams this season.
Baker won the first meeting, 63-57 on Dec. 7 at Prineville. Baker trailed by two points at the start of the fourth quarter but rallied.
In the rematch on Jan. 3 at Baker, the Cowboys won 62-52. It was Baker’s fifth straight game, all losses, without leading scorer Isaiah Jones, the 2024 Class 4A player of the year, as he recovered from an appendectomy.
Baker and Crook County have three common opponents this season in Redmond, La Grande and The Dalles.
Crook County had a 3-2 record against those teams.
Baker was 5-0.

Crook County lost 58-48, and lost 73-42

Baker, which barely missed qualifying for the 2024 tournament, losing by one point to Philomath in a playoff game, returns to Forest Grove thanks to an 18-5 scoring run in the fourth quarter that fueled a 59-46 win over Marshfieldat Coos Bay on March 7. The teams were tied at 41 entering the final period.
