A total of 69 students in fifth and sixth grades from across Baker County entered artwork in the Baker County Health Department’s “Say No To Vaping” poster contest.

Brooke Dyer, a sixth-grader from Haines Elementary, was the grand prize winner. Her class receives $500.

Students from the Pine Eagle School District in Halfway, Burnt River School District in Unity, South Baker Intermediate and the Haines and Keating elementary schools competed.

The first-, second- and third-place winners from each school district will receive gift cards.

Judges were from the health department and other county employees.

Posters were judged on creativity, effectiveness of message, and overall

design, said Hayley Sanders, community health nurse and tobacco prevention and education coordinator for the health department.

“All of the students’ artwork will be displayed in the Baker County community later this spring,” Sanders said. “Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to all the students who participated this year.”

The first- and second-place winners from each district vied for the grand prize.
