March opens new art shows

BAKER CITY — The First Friday art walk on March 7 features new shows at local galleries, as well as a fundraiser featuring art by kindergartners.
Baker Early Learning Center
2725 Seventh St.
BELC will have an art show from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on March 7 featuring work by the kindergarten students, a silent dessert auction, class-sponsored gift baskets, a 50/50 raffle and the start of ticket sales to win a handmade quilt (winner will be drawn at Books and Bingo on April 3).
The art show includes a glow room featuring student art created with fluorescent paint that will glow under a black light.
Baker Food Co-op
2008 Broadway St.
The co-op will feature oil paintings by Russell Powell, who will join his wife Holly Powell of Eastside Bakery and her baked goods, including gluten-free offerings.
The co-op’s First Friday event is 4-7 p.m.
Crossroads Carnegie Art Center
2020 Auburn Ave.
Crossroads will open “Beyond the Rim: The Beauty of the Bowl” on Friday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m. Music will be provided by Americana duo Adam and Amarina, and those attending can enter for the chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the Eltrym Theater.
This open show celebrates the function and fancy of the much-loved vessel, the bowl, in all its shapes and sizes, as well as 2D submissions with vessel-inspired content.
In addition, the show will feature bowls, on display only and not for sale, from personal collections.
Churchill Hall Pass Gallery
3451 Broadway St.
Churchill will feature the work of Sherri Linnemeyer starting at 5:30 p.m.
Linnemeyer creates her works with tissue paper and handmade paper by cutting or tearing each piece of paper to create her colorful scenes.
Royal Artisan
1912 Main St.
Royal Artisan will be showing “Watercolor Illusions” by Randy Sandknop, and feature music by D’Club L’Eveque, from 5-8 p.m.
