- Gracelynn Stagnaro, left, and Nicole Miller organize purple Baker High School shirts in Paw Prints, a renovated closet that stocks Bulldog gear at BHS. All BHS students received one of these shirts at the beginning of the year.
Baker Bulldog gear is in great supply this year thanks to Baker High School students and a heat press machine.
“It’s really cool that the kids are doing it all themselves,” said Nicole Miller, who facilitates the library and media center at BHS.
The students use a heat press to add designs on a variety of items, including hoodies, T-shirts, sweatpants, hats, blankets and tumblers. Some shirts say “One Team, One Family,” while others feature the Bulldog logo or a bold BHS. Sizes range from children’s extra-small to adult 3XL.
The store, called Paw Prints, is in a renovated closet inside the media center/library at BHS. It is open to the public on school days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon. Visitors must first check in at the front office.
Payment can be cash, check or card.
Also, Miller will have merchandise at some home basketball games. To confirm she’ll be there, send an email to nicole.miller@bakersd.org.
She hopes to have the Bulldog items at more games in the future, including next football season, when she has a more mobile set-up.
A Renaissance project
Profits from Paw Prints sales go to the Renaissance leadership program at BHS. Renaissance is focused on changing the school culture with special activities and assemblies, Miller said.
“There’s a conference every year and this money will help more kids go,” she said.
This last summer, 16 students and four adults attended a conference in Florida that included workshops to share ideas. This fall, BHS hosted a “mini Ren rally” with a guest speaker and Renaissance representative.
Miller said Renaissance focuses on inclusive activities — assemblies with all sorts of games, positive messages around the school, and a “thankful” banner with student responses, to name a few.
Also, Miller said every BHS student received the same purple Baker High School shirt, and that tradition will continue with each incoming freshman class.
