Baker graduates bring in more than $900,000 in scholarships

- Baker High School.
Graduating seniors have received $900,000 in scholarships, and that amount continues to grow, said Nicole Sullivan, facilitator of the Future Center at Baker High School.
That includes about $330,000 in local scholarships.
The Leo Adler Foundation, created by philanthropist Leo Adler, a lifelong Baker City resident who bequeathed his $20 million estate on his death in 1993 for scholarships and community grants, awarded $134,200 in scholarships to 46 students.
“I am really proud of our 2024 seniors,” Sullivan said. “We are so incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community to help fund and support our graduates as they continue their education and training.”
Scholarship money has been arriving in some cases later than usual due to delays in the federal college student aid program, Sullivan said.
During the senior awards night on May 23, Wade Hawkins and Axel Marvin were named valedictorians, and Ryann Paulsen as salutatorian.
Hudson Spike was named outstanding senior boy, and outstanding senior boy athlete.
Meadoh Waldrop was named outstanding senior girl.
Ryann Paulsen was named outstanding senior girl athlete.
The graduation ceremony will be Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Baker Bulldog Memorial Stadium (an item in the May 28 issue incorrectly listed the time as 2 p.m.).
