Camping fees added to several Wallowa-Whitman campgrounds

Two Color campground, along Eagle Creek in the southern Wallowa Mountains, is among 24 campgrounds or trailheads on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest that could begin charging fees in 2021 under a proposal.

BAKER CITY — Several campgrounds and two trailheads on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest are charging overnight camping fees starting this year, with the revenue to be used to build amenities at the sites.

The Forest Service has already made improvements to the campgrounds, including installing new tables, fire rings and bulletin boards.

The following campgrounds have new self-service pay stations to collect the $10 per night camping fee:

La Grande District

• Boulder Park Campground ($10 per night)

• Spring Creek Campground ($10 per night)

• Two Color Campground ($10 per night)

• Umapine Campground

Hells Canyon NRA

• Black Lake Campground

• Saddle Creek Campground

• Seven Devils Campground

• Twin Lakes Campground

• Windy Saddle Campground

• Heaven’s Gate Trailhead

• Windy Saddle Trailhead

Eagle Cap District

• Boundary Campground

• Canyon Forest Campground

• Wallowa Valley

• Coyote Campground

• Dougherty Campground

Whitman District

• McBride Campground
