LA GRANDE – Any hopes La Grande had of advancing to the playoffs
left town with Baker Saturday as the Bulldogs swept their rivals 6-5
and 10-5.
The Tigers jumped out early in the first game with a pair of squeeze bunts to fuel a five-run third inning.
However, Baker bounced back to tie the game with five runs in the fourth.
Tori Brown started the rally with a leadoff double. Sierra Howerton later hit a triple, one of her three hits.
The Bulldogs pushed across the winning run in the sixth when Howerton singled home Becca Joseph, who had doubled.
D.J. McCauley picked up the win for Baker.
Tori Brown had a triple to go along with her two-bagger.
Shelby Hasse finished with a double for La Grande.
Despite allowing two runs in the first inning off a home run by Brown, La Grande led 4-2 at the end of the inning in the nightcap.
Baker pulled away in the fourth, scoring three times.
Mackenzie Srack led off with a single and scored on Danielle Freese’s single.
Srack had three hits, and Freese, Laura Wilson and Morgan Johnson two hits apiece.
McCauley shut down the La Grande offense the rest of the way.
Hasse and Jenny Tracy each had two hits.
J.C. Childs added a double.
Paige Aldred had a triple.
La Grande will close out the season against Mac-Hi Saturday at 1 p.m.
Baker travels to Canyon City on Tuesday to play Grant Union in a doubleheader.
