BAKER MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Four games, four Wins for BMS

On Saturday April 20th the Bulldog bats were blazing for the Baker Middle School softball crew, lined up against Idaho teams from McCall and Fruitland, and split-team games against New Plymouth.

The Bulldogs dominated in all four games at the Fruitland gathering, though it took some harder earning by the fourth match, now standing 10-4 for the season so far.

Next up they’ll return to Fruitland’s Mesa Park on April 27th for four more games before getting a weekend off as the season tournament builds.

Vs McCall Vandals

Baker – 17

McCall – 9

Romie Spooner pitched all 4 innings, striking out 4 and giving up only 5 hits.

The Bulldogs collected 14 hits in the game, Euna Knapp went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and had 1 RBI.

Jessica Warbis went 2-3 and led the team with 3 bat-ins, Romie Spooner went 1-3 with a double and a run scored. Sadie Christensen went 1-3 with a triple, 1 run scored, 1 RBI, and Gabby Solis went 1-1, drew 2 walks and scored 3 runs.

Ilah Eisiminger went 2-2 with 2 singles, drew 1 walk and had 2 RBI’s, and Clara Slater went 2-3, scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI.

Vs. Fruitland Grizzlies

Baker – 17

Fruitland – 1

Claire Collier pitched the first 2 innings, she surrendered 0 hits and 0 runs while striking out 5.

Sadie Christensen pitched the final inning; she struck out one batter and allowed only 1 run.

Romie Spooner went 1-2 with 2 runs scored, Jocelyn Rayl went 2-2 with a triple. She scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI.

Paityn Barr went 1-2 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI, Bailey Sangster went 1-2, drew 2 walks and had 2 runs scored. Sadie Christensen went 2-3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs, Grace Radabah went 1-1, drew 1 walk, scored a run and 1 RBI.

Bailey Sangster and Romie Spooner both had 2 stolen bases. Claire Collier, Euna Knapp, Jocelyn Rayl and Sadie Christensen each had a stolen base.

Vs. New Plymouth Pilgrims – Full Teams

Baker – 9

New Plymouth – 4

“We were down 4-1, said assistant coach Brandi Sangster, “and came back to win 9-4.”

Jocelyn Rayl started in the circle. She didn’t give up a hit, struck out 3 and allowed only 2 earned runs.

Claire Collier ended the game pitching 4 innings. She allowed only 1 hit and 0 runs over those 4 innings, and she struck out 4 batters.

Paityn Barr went 3-3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI, Bailey Sangster went 1-2 with 1 run scored. Claira Slater went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

Sadie Christensen went 1-1, drew one walk, scored 1 run and had 1 RBI.

“Romie Spooner went 2-3, laying down 2 beautiful bunts to get on, manufacturing some great insurance runs in the process,” said Sangster.

Euna Knapp drew 2 walks and scored 1 run.

Claira Slater had 3 stolen bases, Sadie Christensen had 2. Bailey Sangster, Makenzie Dennis, Paityn Barr and Romie Spooner each swiped a bag as well.

“This game was our best of the season,” said Sangster. “We had excellent base running and manufactured runs when they were much needed.”

“It was a team effort all around! We played fundamentally sound and it paid off,” said head Coach Nathan Rayl.

“The defense settled in nicely behind Jocelyn and Claire. We had 2 double plays turned,” he said.

Vs. New Plymouth Pilgrims – B Teams

Baker – 14

New Plymouth – 7

Sadie Christensen pitched all 4 innings, with 6 strikeouts and gave up 6 hits.

Romie Spooner drew 2 walks and scored 2 runs, Frankie Chavez had 2 runs scored, drawing 1 walk.

Sadie Christensen was 1-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, Euna Knapp drew 3 walks and had 2 runs scored.

Teala Morris drew 1 walk and had a run scored, Claire Collier went 1-1, drew 1 walk and scored 1 run.

“The girls had a good eye at the plate, drawing 13 total walks,” said Sangster.
