Forest Road 2036 will be closed at Little Catherine Creek from July 24-Aug. 24 while workers replace a culvert.

BAKER CITY — A road on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest southeast of Union will be closed to traffic from July 24 through Aug. 24 while workers replace a culvert.

The culvert, which carries water from Little Catherine Creek, runs beneath Road 2036, which branches off Highway 203 near Catherine Creek State Park.

The project is planned to start July 8 and continue through Sept. 15, with the road closure July 24-Aug. 24.

This is the first of four culverts the Wallowa-Whitman intends to replace with money through the Great American Outdoor Act.

Replacing the culverts will improve passage for fish, according to a press release from the Wallowa-Whitman.

The others three future projects are Indian Creek, later this year, Meadow Creek in 2025, both in the La Grande District, and Beaver Creek in the Whitman District, also expected to be in 2025.
