LA GRANDE — Interstate 84 eastbound from La Grande (Exit 265) to Baker City (Exit 304) closed late Sunday night due to wildfire activity east of Baker City, and Oregon Department of Transportation officials said the closure was likely to last until Monday morning.

In addition, I-84 remains closed in both directions between Baker City and Ontario, ODOT said in an email sent at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, July 21.

ODOT officials urged travelers to delay travel if possible or to use an alternate route by staying on main highways. They urged travelers not to follow GPS directions or detour onto county or forest roads, since those are not suitable for interstate traffic.

Oregon Highway 245 is open to local traffic only; ODOT officials said the road is not suitable for interstate traffic due to length restrictions.

Crews were expected to evaluate the situation early Monday morning.
