Following an arctic front that swept through on Friday, Jan. 12, with skies clearing the temperature at the Baker City Airport has dipped to 8 below zero this morning.

That’s the coldest temperature at the airport since Jan. 1, 2022, when the low was 20 below zero.

The record low for Jan. 13 is 13 below, set in 1949.

Other low temperatures so far this morning:

• 12 below, west Baker City

• 14 below, Baker Valley west of Haines

• 14 below, North Powder

• 14 below, Alder Creek, I-84 about 10 miles southeast of Baker City

• 14 below, Sumpter Junction on Highway 7

• 24 below, Meacham

Heavy snow is forecast later today, with several inches possible in the valleys and more in the mountains.
