Letter to the editor for Sept. 14, 2023

You know, don’t you, Bakerites, that this was a complete setup by the red council members? When Herr Diaz quit, they gave the mayor position back to Calder, KNOWING they were going to quit en masse, setting up a mess (because that’s all Republicans know how to do these days, national or local).
Then they think they have the right to demand an expensive and slow-paced election to fill the vacancies, running up the shortfall and keeping all council business in holding. The reasoning, I’m sure, is to let a majority-red populace re-elect a red council, giving them bragging rights and some nebulous claim to more power than they think they had before.
Now, the lawyers will get involved, costing the city more and more, adding again to that shortfall because. … well, because nothing is meant to grow in Baker except the cost of government.
And the public safety Fee, voted on, but still awaiting public input? Well, obviously, that fee can’t be changed now, no matter what the public says, because the council can’t reach a quorum.
Maybe Boston Colton, the only councilor who stated a coherent, specific reason for quitting, should try to rescind his resignation letter. Give the council back a quorum and get back to work fixing Baker’s problems.
