CALDWELL, Idaho — The Baker cross-country teams had a solid performance at one of the bigger meets of the season, the Caldwell Twilight Invitational Thursday, Aug. 31.
In the boys race, Baker junior Daniel Brown ran a 23-second personal lifetime best, finishing the 3.1-mile course in 17:09.41.
“Daniel has trained hard for three years,” Baker coach Suzy Cole said. “This was a meet we knew would show us where he stands currently this season.”
Cole said Nate Jensen and Hunter Bingham also ran strong races.
On the girls side, junior Sofie Kaaen was Baker’s top runner, finishing 66th. Sophomore Gwen Rasmussen was 68th.
“This is such a fast course against some really big Boise schools that I think we got a little caught up with how fast the pace went out in the first mile,” Cole said. “This is one of the reasons we like this race so much, it will actually be the fastest meet we run in all season, including state. It gives us an opportunity to know how big races go. I was pleased with our overall effort and especially from our newcomers.”
Cole said Sara Ruiz had a great race, finishing 32nd in the girls JV race.
Cole said the Bulldogs are looking forward to the annual Catherine Creek Scamper, with its infamous mud pit, on Friday, Sept. 8.
