Horse treatment just isn’t right

To the editor:

Sorry to say but we were having a good time enjoying the Haines Rodeo on Saturday when one event spoiled it for us.

My sister and her husband came all the way from Milton-Freewater to see the rodeo for the first time ever.

We all enjoyed the saddle broncs, bullriding, cowhide races, mutton busting, etc., until an event called big loop roping.

This involves a horse being roped around the neck and then again around the front legs until the horse falls to the ground.

I’ve heard that horses have been taken out on stretchers before because of broken legs in this event.

It’s not right to the horses. How many people do you know that have a cow for a true friend? I like riding in rodeos, parades, trails, etc., but this isn’t right.
