On Saturday, Dec. 17 , the Baker City Rotary Club “rang the bell” for The Salvation Army at our Bi-Mart store. Even in these marginal economic times, I was pleasantly surprised by the generosity and willingness of our local community members to help those less fortunate than themselves.

During the shift that I worked with another Rotarian, an older gentleman showed us the truest sense of the season. He stopped and made a donation and made a comment that we should have been in a different location where we could have gotten some hot chocolate during our shift. About 20 minutes later he returned with hot chocolate for us from one of the coffee shops in town. To him we would like to a give a special thank you. … and thank you to all of you who donated to help others!
