La Grande woman hurt after car hits bear on I-84 near Farewell Bend

A La Grande woman was hurt when the car she was driving hit a bear on Interstate 84 near Huntington just before midnight on Thursday, May 1.
Patricia Wigginton, 36, was driving a Ford Fiesta with three juvenile passengers, ages 6, 15 and 16, according to a report from Oregon State Police Sgt. Peter Anderson.
Wigginton was driving west on the freeway near Milepost 351, at about 11:12 p.m. when her car hit a bear in the road.
The car spun onto the westbound shoulder and flipped onto its top, according Anderson’s report.
Wigginton was taken by LifeFlight helicopter with “serious injuries,” according to the report.
An ambulance transported the three passengers, who had “suspected serious to minor injuries,” according to the report.
The condition of the driver was not available.
The OSP report does not mention how the bear fared.
The site is about 2 miles west of Farewell Bend.
