The Baker City Kiwanis Club presented student recognition awards to Baker High School seniors Amber Conley and Sydney Penning on Tuesday, April 29.
The students received a certificate and $50.
Conley was nominated by Melody Webb.
“She never backs down from a challenge and continually does good deeds for other students and staff without any recognition,” Webb wrote in her nomination. “She has grown from a shy quiet student who needed the work experience into setting goals of greeting customers at Marla’s Mall, answering the phones and taking messages. She assists with the running of Marla’s Mall and Bulldog Bubbles without hesitation.
Webb said Conley “continues to overcome the many challenges she has had to face in life” and focuses on being a good student and a positive part of the school community.
“Amber is very eager to meet the needs of the people around her, no matter if she feels like she can do it or not, she will always try,” Webb said.
Sydney Penning was nominated by Bibiana Gifft.
“Sydney Penning leads with heart, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to others,” Gifft wrote in her letter. “She has a rare ability to make everyone feel seen and valued, and her leadership leaves a lasting impact on those around her.”
Penning is active in FFA, is an ASB officer, athlete, youth volleyball coach, community volunteer and is graduating as salutatorian of her class.
“Her ability to balance these commitments with integrity and excellence is a true reflection of her work ethic and character,” Gifft said.
