Drivers in Eastern Oregon will be able to get a better sense of driving conditions in the region, before they leave their driveways, by later this year.

The Oregon Department of Transportation plans to install 18 cameras, along with weather stations, along highways this year.

The cameras should be in place by July, said Vicki Moles, public information officer for ODOT’s Region 5.

The $4.3 million project includes sites in Baker, Union, Wallowa, Morrow, Umatilla, Malheur and Harney counties.

The new cameras will be added to the Tripcheck network — tripcheck.com — that includes more than 100 sites statewide.
