BAKER TENNIS: Bulldogs take on Vale Vikings

The Baker boys and girls tennis teams played host to Vale on Tuesday, April 22, at the Ash Grove Courts.
Baker swept the boys singles matches, with Simon De Frutos Casado beating Uriel Medrando, 6-2, 6-1, and Zayne Hills beating Etienne Armstrong, 6-4, 6-3.
In boys doubles, Baker’s Weston Burton and Jacob Burton beat Eli Seals and Will McBride, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, and Theo Pepera and Gabe Schwartz beat Dylan Thode and Wyatt Estes, 6-0, 6-1. Vale’s Christian Rosales and Kyle McWherter beat Baker’s Orrin Anderson and Jarrin Bott, 1-6, 6-4, (tiebreaker 10-4).
Baker swept the three girls singles matches.
Liz Timm beat Avery Schiemer, 6-4, 6-1, Bel Cunningham beat Janet Gonzales, 6-3, 6-2, and Abby Cunningham beat Autum Jones, 7-5, 6-2.
In girls doubles, Vale’s sister team of Elise and Ellie Seals, the defending Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state champions, beat Kaitlyn Schwin and Olivia Jacoby, 6-1, 6-4.
Vale’s Ella Nieskens and Megan Schoorl beat Emy Myer and Jayden Whitford, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
Vale’s Hazel McKrola and Marli Bennett beat Jailey Ford and Mykenzie Coley, 6-0, 6-0, and the Viking due of Madison Baker and Rachel Ainsworth beat Anne Hindman and Sophia Ward, 6-3, 6-3.
Baker girls at Madras tournament
A group of Baker girls competed in the annual tournament at Madras on April 19.
The doubles teams of Kaitlyn Schwin and Olivia Jacoby, and Emy Myer and Jayden Whitford, competed, along with singles players Liz Timm and Madi Sullivan.
Each doubles team and singles player had seven matches, each match consisting of seven games. Winners were determined by the number of matches won.
Baker finished second overall as a team, behind only Vale.
Other teams competing were Klamath Union, Henley, Madras, The Dalles, Estacada and Molalla.
Timm finished second in the number one singles division, and Sullivan was second in number two singles.
Schwin and Jacoby were second in number one doubles, and Myer and Whitford third in number two doubles.
