The Bureau of Land Management is planning to burn piles of debris near the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center Friday morning, April 25, starting around 9 a.m.

The center is just north of Highway 86 about five miles east of Baker City.

The piles consist of vegetation removed from parking areas and hiking trails near the center.

The piles are southeast of the center itself, near the retention ponds beside the maintenance building just off Highway 86.

Residents should expect to see smoke in the area at times, Bogardus said.

“All burning will be performed by trained fire management personnel in accordance with local, state, and federal fire regulations,” according to a press release from the BLM. “Public and crew safety are the highest priority, and strict measures are taken to ensure a burn is safe, controlled, and monitored at all times.”
