The Baker City-County Planning Department has received an application to build a Starbucks coffee shop, including a drive-thru, at the Baker Towne Square near Albertsons grocery.

The applicant is Darren Dickerhoof of Corvallis.

Greg Sackos of Baker City owns the property, which is on the north side of Campbell Street just east of the driveway leading to Albertsons and other businesses in Baker Towne Square.

According to the application, the Starbucks would be built on a parcel of about 0.91 acres at the corner of Campbell and the Towne Square driveway, across the driveway from the gas station and convenience store. The building would cover about 2,420 square feet.

The entrance to Starbucks would be about 180 feet north of Campbell. The building would be on the east side of the parcel, with parking on the west side of the building.

Starbucks is one of two businesses that could be built at the Towne Square.

Tara Micka, acting director of the planning department, said in late March that she has had preliminary meetings with representatives from Domino’s Pizza and from Starbucks.

As of Tuesday, April 15, Starbucks has filed an application. Micka said she also expects an application for a Domino’s restaurant, which would also have a drive-thru.

Based on the preliminary meetings, Micka said it appears that a Domino’s would be built north of the Starbucks site.

Because the property is zoned commercial, it’s likely that the planning department could do a site design review and approve the projects without submitting the proposals to the city planning commission, Micka said.

There is a Starbucks inside the Albertsons store.

A Domino’s restaurant on Main Street closed more than a decade ago.
