Baker City man killed in crash on Interstate 84

A Baker City man died in a crash on Interstate 84 near Rye Valley on Saturday, April 5, when the car he was driving stopped for unknown reasons and was hit from behind by a commercial truck.

John Carl Allyn, 85, died at a hospital after being taken by Life Flight helicopter, according to Oregon State Police.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Chevrolet Tahoe Allyn was driving stopped around 10:52 p.m. in the eastbound slow lane near Milepost 345, about 41 miles southeast of Baker City.

An eastbound commercial truck driven by Anatolii Gulei, 36, of Vancouver, Washington, crashed into the stopped Tahoe, according to OSP.

Gulei was not hurt.

The crash is under investigation.
