BAKER/POWDER VALLEY/PINE EAGLE SOFTBALL: Bulldogs drop doubleheader to unbeaten La Grande

LA GRANDE — The Baker/Powder Valley/Pine Eagle softball team didn’t have an easy introduction to its Greater Oregon League schedule.
The Bulldogs traveled to La Grande for a doubleheader against the unbeaten Tigers, ranked fourth in Class 4A.
La Grande remained undefeated, improving to 13-0, 2-0 in league, with an 11-3, 12-2 sweep. The second game ended after six innings as the Tigers had a 10-run lead.
Baker dropped to 3-6 and 0-2.
The Tigers took early leads in both games, scoring four runs in the first inning of the first game and five runs to open the nightcap.
First game
Baker rallied and cut the La Grande lead to 6-3 with two runs in the fifth. Reagan Ritter walked to lead off, and Maylee Marlin had a bunt single. Jaxyn Ramos drove in Ritter with a single, and Colbi Bachman had an RBI for the second run.
But La Grande’s Maddie Seavert hit a 3-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to boost the Tigers’ lead to 9-3.
Ramos and Macey Morgan each had two hits as the Bulldogs had five hits against La Grande ace Carlee Strand, who struck out 12.
Second game
Bachman had two hits, and Martin and Ritter each had an RBI, but Baker couldn’t come back from a 7-0 deficit after two innings.
Baker travels to Weiser, Idaho, for a single nonleague game Friday, April 11, at 3 p.m. MDT.
