BAKER/POWDER VALLEY BASEBALL: Bulldogs rout Grant Union 13-1, improve to 3-3

The Baker/Powder Valley baseball team evened its season record at 3-3 with a 13-1 five-inning rout of Grant Union on Wednesday, April 2.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday at John Day, but was postponed due to snow Tuesday morning. The game was rescheduled for Wednesday and moved to the Baker Sports Complex.

Baker dominated from the start, scoring three runs in the first and four more in the second.

Zane Morgan was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Ethan Fletcher was 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Clay Stevens was 1 for 1 with an RBI.

McClaughry was the winning pitcher, giving up one hit in 3 innings while striking out six. Logan Crawford and Stevens each pitched an inning in relief.

“Our bats finally came alive and the defense was very good,” Baker coach Tim Smith said.

Baker didn’t commit an error.

The Bulldogs continue a three-games-in-three-days homestand by taking on Vale on Thursday, April 3, at 4 p.m. Baker then plays host to Melba, Idaho, on Friday at 2 p.m.
