Planning department has preliminary meetings with Starbucks, Domino’s Pizza about building in Baker City

Representatives from Starbucks and Domino’s Pizza have had preliminary meetings about potentially building adjacent restaurants in the Baker Towne Square on the north side of Campbell Street between Safeway and Albertsons.

Neither company has filed an application, but the “pre-application” meetings happened over the past month or so, Tara Micka, acting director of the Baker City/County Planning Department, said on Friday morning, March 21.

Micka said she expects to receive applications from both companies, but there is no definite timeline.

Based on the preliminary meetings, Micka said it appears that Starbucks would build at the corner of the vacant property just north of Campbell, across from the Albertsons gas station.

The Domino’s restaurant would be just north of Starbucks, Micka said.

Both would have drive-thru lanes, she said.

Because the property is zoned commercial, it’s likely that the planning department could do a site design review and approve the projects without submitting the proposals to the city planning commission, Micka said.

There is a Starbucks inside the Albertsons store.

A Domino’s restaurant on Main Street closed more than a decade ago.
