Marli Lind of Baker/Powder Valley capped her high school career by placing second in the 4A/3A/2A/1A state wrestling tournament for the second time, losing by fall in the third period in the championship match to North Bend’s Kaylianna Mazzucchi on Friday night, Feb. 28, at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum.

Lind placed second as a sophomore in 2023, and she was third in 2024.

Lind, the top seed at 155 pounds with a season record of 43-5, won two matches on Thursday to advance to the semifinals against Delilah Jaramillo of Rogue River, who is 27-5.

Lind dominated the semifinal match from the start, getting a takedown in the first 30 seconds to take a 3-0 lead, then pinning Jaramillo in 1:07.

The championship match was a rematch of Lind’s and Mazzucchi’s bout in the first round of the 2024 state tournament, when Lind lost by 8-7 decision. The match was tied and appeared headed for overtime when the referee awarded Mazzucchi a point because Lind was muttering to herself for inspiration in the final seconds.
